This great little jar is an antique,ceramic,under-the-glaze transferred ointment pot which was commonly used in Victorian times as a "cure-all" for all kind of maladies, and became extremely popular.

 

THE COATES DIE-PLATE circa 1910It measures 5.5"x7.75" and was used to mold the biting surface of crowns. My research tells me it's a heavy gauge copper plate with an aluminum/silver coating.
