You are looking at a Very old US Forest service Compass.. It has quiet a bit of Pocket wear and the paint is missing on the outside of the compass.. It has what I believe to be scratches from previous

 

Very rare, very thick and heavy made pair of compass. these type of periode items (seventeenth centrury ) are rare. the knob on top is 2 cm thick and total is 14 cm long. bronze or brass with iron end

 

The brass tie down cleat is stamped with a trident makers mark and measures 6-1/4" long and the holes are 1-1/2" on center.
